It’s a season when home advantage means less than ever before, but it still has to mean something: The Lakers haven’t lost on the road yet.

The momentum for the league leaders increased further as the Lakers (10-3) swept aside the rebuilt Oklahoma City Thunder (128: 99) on Wednesday evening to improve from the Staples Center to 7-0 – the best Start in franchise history. The visitors never followed.

Wednesday’s efforts looked just as airy as the previous two Houston wins: LeBron James drilled five 3-point points to take the lead with 26 points and added seven assists. Anthony Davis only played 24 minutes and added 18 points.

While the Lakers got revved up by limited Houston fans in the previous two games, the COVID-19 protocols created a sense of isolation that has turned the team into fuel rather than a hindrance.

« We only have a bunker mentality when we’re out, » said James. « It’s just us. »

It was further proof of the strength of a franchise that has hunkered down since winning its 17th championship last October and made the best start in the NBA. But the league is rattling and shaking in response: Less than 24 hours after the Lakers beat up the Houston Rockets in a street damage and got James Harden to describe his situation there as untenable, the Brooklyn Nets traded for the reigning top scorer of the NBA .

Among other things, it unites Harden with former Thunder teammate Kevin Durant and dynamic point guard Kyrie Irving in the latest super team alliance. As a team with the best record and an unaffordable title favorite, an interpretation of the move is an attempt to get to the level of the Lakers.

« You look good on paper, » said Davis. « And we’ll see how it goes when these guys get between the lines and get the chance to play side by side. »

The Lakers are well advanced in this process with their newcomers – and it is already looking good between the lines.

Dennis Schröder had an inefficient shooting night on his return to the team, where he had spent the last two seasons and needed 12 shots to get 14 points. But the 27-year-old point guard was very happy to play as a distributor in his new stacked roster, adding five templates.

While finishing runner-up for sixth man of the year in a career-boosting two-year stint in Oklahoma City, Schröder is clearly happy where he is now and has recently been asking more questions about signing an extension in Los Angeles while it was running “It’s fair on both sides. “A trip to his old arena was a nice trip back in time, but it didn’t seem like much more.

« It was nice to see these people and I think we have great chemistry in this organization (the Donner), » said Schröder. « I’m just trying to focus on getting the W. »

The Thunder fell 5-0 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena, a place where they have traditionally been a stronghold behind the power of an arena full of energetic fans. But these are different days for the franchise since trading with Chris Paul: Former clipper Shai Gilgeous-Alexander approached Oklahoma City with 17 points.

The bank had a lot of playing time with a double-digit lead at the start of a game in which the Lakers took command with a 16-0 run in the second quarter. Montrezl Harrell had 21 points to lead a reserve unit, beating their Oklahoma counterparts 57:49. As a team, the Lakers shot 46 percent from 3-point range.

This rest is important to a Lakers team that Davis was questionable earlier in the day with a blunt left toe and back pain. All 12 Lakers who have played scored the team’s second highest score of the year.

« You are starting to think about managing logs to make sure the guys don’t overdo it, » said Frank Vogel. “Give your main cast a chance to rest, but also give people like Marc (Gasol) and (Markieff Morris), who normally aren’t in the trash tonight, just the chance to have an extra run, more rhythm and more get conditioning, all those kind of things, it’s an opportunity to get your young people to put them in certain situations and see what they can do so it definitely has benefits.  »

The biggest advantage: having fun in a season that for many felt like a slog.

« I think we’re all having a good time, but you have a good time when you win, » said James. « And that’s the most important thing. If you win and learn from your winnings, it’s fun. »
