In case you missed it on the international break news, things weren’t going too well for Everton’s James Rodriguez.
The Colombian had forgotten two weeks with his national team when he was beaten 3-0 by Uruguay on Tuesday and 6-1 by Ecuador on Tuesday.
At these appearances, Rodriguez, who is to a large extent the team’s talisman, was heavily criticized in his home country and discussed whether he should play at all at this point.
Amid reports, it was alleged that the Everton star was involved in a locker room with Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez and Bournemouth’s Jefferson Lerma.
Rodriguez has since vehemently denied this and even threatened legal action on the matter.
The whole matter is ugly to say the least, and Marca’s Colombian edition has provided a glimpse of what went on.
First of all, they say with « certainty » that there is no evidence of a fight in the locker room, nor has it been possible to confirm that Everton’s Rodriguez « got hit » with anyone.
Talk of a break in the dressing room isn’t far from the mark, however.
They state that after losing to Uruguay and losing to Ecuador, the group arrived « broken in spirit » and only helped to further demonstrate their « broken » nature.
They say there is a « cancer » in the group that began when Rodriguez was robbed of the captain by manager Carlos Quieroz.
The Everton man « didn’t like at all » that it was removed from him because he felt that this was his « moment to command the team » without striker Falcao.
However, Quieroz chose David Ospina, believing he would be a better pick after Rodriguez was « out of rhythm » due to the problems he had with Everton over the past month.
It was clear that James could also be replaced in the first team due to his form and his struggles in the « extreme humidity », but in the dressing room the « message was not right ». .
Many of the players « showed their displeasure » and from then on the situation worsened to the point where Quieroz has now « lost the group ». .
He is now expected to be removed from his position, with the « no clear leader » group and James remaining very inconvenient.
